About Us

Youth Health Alliance (YHA) is a non-profit organization with 501 (c)(3) status that is dedicated to promoting health. YHA was founded in early 2007 with the goal of combating obesity in the youth through health education. We provide tips about how to live a healthy lifestyle as well as other health-related topics in YouTube videos produced by YHA staff and volunteers. Additionally, YHA holds several community outreach projects every year. Past projects have included Holiday Toy Drives, Clothing Drives, and fund raising for health care in rural countries.

Mission

The Youth Health Alliance is dedicated to promoting health awareness to the youth of our community by means of providing information concerning health related issues. We achieve this goal by providing informational material in the form of brochures, presentations, e-mail, and educational videos. These prompts will be presented, as well as distributed to the community, including, schools, hospitals, and public facilities. We support and encourage advocacy, research in illnesses/diseases affecting youths both directly and indirectly, education of health awareness, and participation in fulfilling our mission.

Vision

The Youth Health Alliance attempts to reach out into the local community, hoping to inspire and motivate adolescents to participate in our project. We hope to involve high school students as a community effort to educate and promote healthy lifestyles. Additionally, we hope to teach the youth about marketing, business, health related issues, teamwork, leadership, and professional etiquette.

The Problem

According to the CDC, an estimated 17 percent of children and adolescents ages 2-19 are obese and each year the statistics are growing at an alarming rate. Obesity has become one of our primary concerns because it can bring about numerous health consequences, including premature death, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, just to name a few. A staggering 70 percent of overweight adolescents may become overweight or obese as adults, unless we put a stop to that trend.

YHA is committed to fighting against childhood obesity through health education and prevention. Because obesity is associated with a lack of physical activity and unhealthy diets, YHA strives to show children and adolescents how exercising and eating right can be fun or at least feasible. We give health information and tips on diet and exercise through YouTube videos and aim to present this information in a way that the youth can relate to, often with humor.
